The Life of the Mind
"My job is to plumb the depths, so to speak. Dredge up
something from inside, something honest. I got to tell you, the life of
the mind…there’s no road map for that territory. And exploring it can be
painful." (Barton Fink, 1991)
Exploring my mind is definitely painful.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and commenting, Cathrina! Do you find that the painful experiences you explore in your mind come through in your writing? And that it's therapeutic sometimes to revisit and reinterpret those experiences in the fictional worlds you create? Whereas I ran with a lighter-hearted tone in Seven for a Secret where the character I most relate to is concerned, my first novel manuscript (still in the revision/querying stage) definitely probed the negative emotions I was undergoing at the time. The story sort of lifted me out of the situation and helped me look down on it as a more objective observer, and I must say, even if that manuscript never gets published, it served good purpose in helping me sort out the darker interior of my mind.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, I just visited your site, and Wickedly They Come sounds like something I'd love. Will have to read it!
